Olivia gets Poped?

Episode five of Scandal's fifth season is the usual political mess this TV series deals with except that it now roughly revolves around POTUS Fitzgerald Grant's and Olivia Pope's publicized affair.

The latest episode opens with the White house in a chaotic debate on what is an "impeachable offense." Fitz believes that his affair with Olivia is not exactly impeachment-worthy and David Rosen tells him that it's not up for him to decide but the congress. Patty Snell, then, makes her grand entrance to the Oval Office "like a snarky, delightful house of fire," as per TV Line and later asks for numerous documents to be handed over to the congress to keep them preoccupied.

In the meantime, Rosen has barred Fitz  from communicating with Olivia. However, DC's white hat wearing fixer gets Leo Borgen (Paul Adelstein) to "fix" her current image. Leo concedes to Quinn's suggestion of labelling Olivia as "Woman of the People" -- which Liv, by the way, loves.

The Gladiators then get started on rehabbing her image starting with a head-to-toe Gap-inspired makeover in order to make her "appear as an everywoman," as per Wall Street Journal.

Liv then turns to ex-flame Senator Edison Davis who has held a grudge against Olivia only agreeing to work with her if she admits to never loving him. Lo and behold, Edison is giving a statement out TV calling out media's "racism" and "sexism." Cyrus Beene appears to be enjoying the circus and Mellie avenges her end when she tips the press (and has admitted to Cyrus later towards the end) on Fitz's great-grandmothers ring he gave Olivia -- which Olivia has been sporting on her finger seen in several photographs. Leo then gave the green flag for Olivia to appear as a "love-struck teenager."

Olivia then seeks the advice of Jake and drops by his unit. She, surprisingly, comes face-to-face with his ex-wife Elise who, Jake initially referred to as an "old friend." Jake tells Olivia to "Just tell the truth." After which, she speaks to the press and says, "I wish I never laid eyes on him." And continues, "I tried and failed ... to stop loving him," she tearfully admits. "But don't ask me to fall out of love with Fitzgerald Grant," she ends in a dramatic note.

After going over what might be "impeachables," Olivia discovers one crucial  offense that would cause Fitz the highest position in America - West  Angola. She then reminds Fitz of this and he proceeds to hurriedly get in touch with Cyrus. However, Fitz then begs Cyrus to go back to the White House and offers him his job back - not the Chief of Staff position. "I dream your dreams and I sweat your nightmares," he tells Fitz. But, "I do not need this. I do not need you."

Fitz then reminds him of their good memories and apologizes for his shortcomings. Cyrus finally accepts but he posed self-serving conditions. He demands to be Chief of Staff, for a presidential pardon issued, a fancy new carpet and Elizabeth fired.
