XCOM: Enemy Unknown released to little fanfare earlier this Fall, but dedicated gamers and critics everywhere praised the stylish return of the classic PC series.

The isometric strategy game puts players in charge of the XCOM initiative, the resistance force against an escalating alien invasion. Gameplay is split into two portions: tile/turn-based combat and base building. The hefty single player offers dozens of hours of play time, but developer Firaxis has announced that its first wave of new content, the 'Slingshot' DLC, will arrive on December 4th.

The DLC includes three new Council missions, which can only be accessed in a fresh campaign. A new character known as Zhang will join players' squads as they take on new mission types. Zhang has "a briefcase filled with some very interesting technology that could potentially protect your base from an alien battleship," explains IGN. "Plus, if you manage to finish all three of the missions, you'll earn yourself a nice little treat for the research team to toy around with."

On the gameplay front, Firaxis has included new battle-types which limit the amount of turns that player have to complete objectives, as well as what appears to be a siege-like mode. The site details that "in the second mission, you'll be making your way down a train car, setting certain...devices for use against an oncoming threat in each of the cars."

'Slingshot' will cost $6.99.
