The United States title will be on the line (as expected) at WWE Hell in a Cell except that the card doesn’t have an official opponent yet for vacation-bound John Cena.

Despite earlier rumors pointing to several personalities that include Dolph Ziggler, Big E, Xavier Woods and even Kofi Kingston, it seems that the WWE has decided to turn the event into something odd as far as WWE pay-per-views are concerned.

Instead of naming an opponent, the old open challenge will be used instead. This means that Cena’s opponent would be known only by that night which could be anyone who already has a card for the night or someone that is not on the roster.

The thought alone of course is endless though some analysts like Dan Pecoraro have made their calls.

For Pecoraro, possible challengers include Cesaro, Tyler Breeze and Samoa Joe who could come out to try (and most likely) pry the US title from the hands of John Cena.

Cena is practically expected to lose the title on that night and it could be one of the three names that the Bleacher Report Pro Wrestling Analyst mentioned.

Of the mix, Cesaro is a curious choice considering he will be in the six-man tag kickoff match set earlier in the night. Cesaro joins forces with Dolph Ziggler and Neville who will go up against the triumvirate of King Barrett, Rusev and Sheamus.

Now from that mix along, anyone from the kick-off match could come out.

Ziggler has long been a rumored favorite to succeed Cena while Rusev does have an old score to settle with the Cenation leader.

Sheamus could be interested as well and he doesn’t have to lose the Money in the Bank briefcase to do it. So why not try to get the US title and then go for the WWE Heavyweight champion when the timing is right?

There are of course the other guys who don’t have a match yet, the ones involved in the original Dean Ambrose and Randy Orton tandem going up against Braun Strowman and Luke Harper.

Orton is of course out with a reported shoulder injury but Ambrose could make a fine jump as well. Considering that Reigns could be bumped up to the main event soon after his match with Bray Wyatt, Ambrose is technically left out.

How about Braun Strowman making a statement by manhandling Cena and sending him off to vacation?

The US title open challenge is indeed a neat solution to determine who Cena will face but the thing is that it could be anyone.

Whatever happens and whoever comes out to the call, Cena is expected to lost the title unless the WWE has other plans up its sleeves.
