British author E.L. James ignited a Twitter frenzy on Wednesday when she asked fans who should play the role of Christian Grey in the film adaptation of her bestselling erotic thriller '50 Shades of Grey.' The author's question elicited over 1,700 retweets and more than 1,100 favorites.

Fans have been rooting for their favorite actors to take up the highly coveted role of Christian Grey in the upcoming film. Among the contenders, 'White Collar' actor Matt Bomer and 'The Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder were top picks. 'Man of Steel' actor Henry Cavill also received a shout out.

"I like Matt Bomer or Ian Somerhalder but I trust you and team50 will make the right choice," @50Latersbaby tweeted back to the author. @fiftyshadestoys added, "@E_L_James We really want you know who YOU want! :-)"

Speculation over who will play the sexy and controlling young millionaire has run rampant over the past few months since Universal Pictures and Focus Films purchased the rights to the film earlier this year. In past Latinos Post fan polls, Bomer, Somerhalder, Cavil, along with 'Magic Mike' star Channing Tatum and 'True Blood' vamp Alexander Skarsgard have received wide fan support.

James previously told reporters that cast selection could take a while. The highly anticipated film already counts on producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti and screenwriter Kelly Marcel for its production team. The first film in the erotic series does not have a scheduled theatrical release.
