Fans of the "X-Men" series have waited patiently for news about the next deadly villain the team is about to face. For those fans, the wait is finally over.

Heroic Hollywood has confirmed that Fox Studios has officially released the synopsis for the highly anticipated film. The synopsis states that Apocalypse is widely considered as the world's first mutant, and in ancient times, he was considered a god to the humans of the period.

Over the centuries, Apocalypse learned many new abilities, including immortality and invincibility. However, according to Coming Soon, the world's first mutant decided to take a 1,000-year slumber. Upon awakening, Apocalypse became disheartened with what he saw in the new world that he woke up in. Apocalypse decides to recruit a team of his own mutants and plans to cleanse the world of what he calls the plague of mankind.

It is now up to Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and his X-Men to team up with some of his deadliest foes to defeat this new threat as the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance.

While this all sounds concerning and world ending, the X-Men have dealt with situations like this in past movies and story arcs. It looks like Professor X will be forced to once again team up with Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) to save the world.

Professor X will have a new team of X-Men to help him in his quest to save the world. These characters include Psylocke (Oliva Munn), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Storm (Alexandria Shipp), Angel (Ben Hardy) and Havoc (Lucas Till). Sorry, fans of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). It seems that everyone's favorite clawed mutant will not be making an appearance this time around.

It has also been confirmed that "X-Men: Apocalypse" will also be set in the "X-Men: First Class" timeline, so viewers shouldn't expect the older versions of Professor X (Patrick Stewart) or Magneto (Ian McKellen). Another note that may be of interest is that this timeline has not been affected as much as the first three "X-Men" films. The events that happened were in the "Days of Future Past" film, so the characters seen in  "X-Men: Apocalypse" will be acting the same way they did in "X-Men: First Class."

"X-Men: Apocalypse" has been set to be the end of the "X-Men: First Class" trilogy, and will continue to be directed by Bryan Singer. The film is set for release on May 27, 2016.
