Halo series creator Bungie Studios helped catapult the original Xbox to console-gaming history with the original Halo, and continued to please gamers and critics with their subsequent titles. After leaving the Halo franchise in another developer's hands, Bungie has been quietly working on a new video game titled 'Destiny,' which looks like it will release on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and be far more socially-oriented than the Halo series, according to a new leaked document.

Gaming website IGN received a document from a reader that was later confirmed by Bungie to be press materials, including concept art, for Bungie's upcoming Destiny video game.

The document contains an image with Destiny's logo stamped above the logos of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, indicating that the game will be releasing on both platforms. Destiny was originally thought to be a four-game series that would release first on the Xbox and later follow on Sony's console. The mockup, however, might indicate that Sony gamers will be receiving Destiny sooner rather than later.

Details about the game are scarce at the moment. Bungie's co-founder Jason Jones described Destiny as being "designed for your inner seven year old. We want to make it feel like a mythic adventure."

Bungie also insists that Destiny will be an incredibly social game, bringing up the old rumor that Bungie is working on an MMO. Bungie has already dismissed the thought earlier this year, but there is strong evidence that Bungie will be exploring social, gamer-to-gamer interaction in Destiny far more than it did with the Halo series.

The IGN document also had this to say about Destiny's plot:

"Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man's Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it's here for, but only that it's our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young 'knights' tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and - eventually - overcoming it."
