John Cena, currently a 15-time WWE Champion and the obvious face of the company at this time will likely (at some point) equal the 16-world titles that WWE great Ric Flair currently holds.

Everyone knows that at WWE SummerSlam, Cena had that opportunity against current title-hold Seth Rollins. Though many knew beforehand that Rollins would likely end the night still champion, it took interference from TV host Jon Stewart to add some color to it.

The reason? Because he was doing Flair a favor by making sure that the Nature Boy would retain that distinction. Of course Flair took exception says that Stewart had no business interfering with that match.

Cena got some payback of course when he hit Stewart with an Attitude Adjustment and now Cena has to try and reclaim the United States title when he faces Rollins at WWE Night of Champions on September 20.

Moving a bit forward though, one has to think – will John Cena become WWE heavyweight champion again in the future?

There are some who believe it may happen but not this year. 2016 perhaps?

Well, it could happen but it may have to run through a series of events.

Rollins is likely to remain champion by the end of WWE Night of Champions though a cash-in by Sheamus isn’t discounted. If that happens then it could be the end of Rollins’ reign.

If that doesn’t happen, there is still one wrestler currently in the background who should have been in Rollins’ shoes had it not for the backlash on him due to his lack of work on the mic. The star is no other than Roman Reigns.

At some point, Reigns will likely be elevated to the main event setto and become champion. Like the case of Cena, that remains unknown. It could happen at Wrestlemania 32, the same setting where Reigns got screwed by Rollins.

Reigns is currently working a tag-team storyline feud against the Wyatt Family, something that was meant to hone up his microphone skills.

Cena? Well he may have to get in line. Seeing him become WWE champion in 2015 or early 2016 doesn’t seem likely for now.

That opportunity could come in the latter half of 2016, but again, there will be a lot of prerequisites and scenarios. In short, it all depend on what the WWE and its creative team have lined-up as far as the WWE Heavyweight title is concerned.
