Can Sting Help Pull Up WWE Ratings?

The WWE has been dying to figure out how to get its shows up in the ratings chart but it seems that the company has been overlooking the talent they have.

Of course, that could be pretty general considering that the WWE locker room is filled with popular stars who seem to be underutilized. Mind you, this is only with reference to the old faces we see.

A quick look will see of course John Cena, the recognized face of the company who has so far been billed in mid-cards. The main event has of course been concentrated on a Seth Rollins push, something that has gone so-so despite the fact that some people think highly of the reigning WWE champion.

Brock Lesnar is still a draw and his colorful fracas with an aging Undertaker is something that the WWE is obviously banking on.

Speaking of Rollins, he is set to face off against WCW legend Sting at WWE Night of Champions, one of two matches for the WWE heavyweight title. The other match pits the Architect against Cena for the United States championship.

As far as Sting is concerned, here is an established star that would have given the WWE a big bump. Everyone knows how big of a star he was in the WCW and the obvious belief is that he was contracted to join the WWE ranks to do the same.

His first official match came at Wrestlemania 31 where he faced off against Triple H. As everyone knows, Sting lost that one though the match was more of a reunion of wrestling legends than actual competition.

Still and all, that match counts as a loss and some fans don’t think highly of the outcome. Perhaps a count-out or double disqualification would be better?

The thing is that if the WWE wants a jack up in their ratings, it should start using their resources properly. One guy that could have helped a lot was Sting.

It didn’t have to be a win on the part of the Vigilante, despite spending years working for the WWE’s rival brand. But being a new face and someone who has a following, the WWE would have done well to cash in on the opportunity and get a boost using Sting.

Heading into the next PPV, not many are convinced that the WWE would award Sting the WWE title. But the curious thing about it is on the repercussions of a Rollins win over Sting.

It would instantly catapult and perhaps cement Rollins’ hold to stardom which many believe could be a bit early.

So it brings to mind a possible scenario – Sheamus. What if Mr. Money in the Bank cashes in midway in the match or attack the eventual winner (if any) at the end of the tiff?

Seeing this match as something that will surely be epic and strenuous, Rollins could be exhausted by the time Sheamus decides to cash in.

What about Sting? The match could end up as a no contest if Sheamus does butt in somewhere in the match. The end result, Sting could be 0-1 in the WWE, far better than being pushed deeper with a 0-2 card.
