The upcoming film “Fifty Shades Darker” has a new director, which could mean a number of changes. Fans are asking which actor would play the vital role of Jack Hyde.

Inquisitr revealed that Henry Cavill previously confirmed that he will not be taking on the role of Hyde, so Ian Somerhalder and Theo James were rumored to be vying for the spot.

In the novel by E.L. James, Hyde is the new employer of Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), who attempts to use his influence to start a relationship with the latter. The situation will expectedly pit Hyde against Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), Anastasia’s lover. Hyde will be one of the main protagonists in the sequel of “Fifty Shades of Grey”.

News Everyday wrote that Somerhalde is best known for his role as the vampire Damon Salvatore on CW’s “Vampire Diaries”. He exuded a mysterious and dark personality on the series, which fans believed would make him a great fit for the character Hyde. Other fans have also been pushing for Theo James to play the role. James co-starred as Tobias Eaton in the “Divergent” film series. He also has a dark and seething trait that made him a good choice as Hyde.

Universal Pictures recently hired director James Foley after Sam Taylor-Johnson confirmed that she will not be returning for the sequel. Other roles are expected to be cast soon, particularly for the characters Elena Lincoln/Mrs. Robinson and Leila Williams. Production will reportedly begin in February 2016, Harpers Bazaar reported.

Dakota Johnson recently shared that she was excited about the new direction that Foley might take in the second movie.

"It's quite exciting. There was a moment of being afraid, because I didn't know what it was going to be like. I had an experience with Sam [Taylor-Johnson] and then that all went away. Now I'm excited. I think James is a talented filmmaker. How often do you get to reconvene with the same people and have a different spin?" Johnson said.

The movie series “Fifty Shades” are based on the erotic-romantic books by E.L. James. The story focuses on the distinct relationship of billionaire Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. In the first film, Grey attempts to have Steel agree to become his sexual submissive, but the latter ultimately decided at the end of the movie that she did not want to be involved.

“Fifty Shades Darker” is set to launch on February 10, 2017.
