Actor Tom Hardy, recently of "Mad Max: Fury Road" fame, says that he wants to return to his role as the iconic Batman villain Bane.

In a recent interview with MTV, the Mad Max actor revealed that he first became enthusiastic about the idea when he heard that the director of "Mad Max: Fury Road", George Miller, was rumored to be directing the sequel to the "Man of Steel" movie. This enthusiasm did not wane after Hardy had heard that Miller was not connected with the film and that in fact, the sequel was put on indefinite hold status.

According to Comic Book, Hardy was then asked who would win in a fight between Batman and Superman. Hardy answered that neither would win, as Bane would make his triumphant return and hold both heroes underneath the water until the bubbles stop.

However, it may be difficult to have Hardy return as Bane, as the character was actually killed at the end of "The Dark Knight Returns" and it has been confirmed that the Christopher Nolan Batman Trilogy is not part of the current DC Comics movie universe.

While it's not entirely out of the ordinary to have a dead character come back to life and resume his or her normal routine, it would be interesting to see how, if ever, Bane's return would be written. As the character is connected to the League of Assassins, rumors saying that Lazarus Pits could be involved in his revival are spreading.

The character of Bane was first introduced in the Batman comics during the "Knight Fall" story arc. The character came out of practically nowhere and began to make life for the caped crusader a living nightmare. While Bane was seen as a muscular masked man, his intelligence and clever planning proved to be too much as the villain succeeded where many failed before him: he defeated Batman. After defeating Batman, Bane received the title as "The Man Who Broke the Bat." The character soon rose in popularity and joined several super villain teams such as the Injustice League, Secret Society of Super Villains and the Suicide Squad.

If the character of Bane does not make a comeback to the DC Comics Universe, Hardy could potentially come back as another character as there are many more villains that have yet to be showcased in a DC Comics movie. Names like Vandal Savage, Maxwell Lord, or even Black Adam could be potential roles Hardy would fit well in.

Do you think Bane should return to the DC Universe? Who do you think Tom Hardy should play if he decides to act in one of the movies? Let us know in the comments below.
