The iPad Mini is Apple's attempt to establish a new line of tablets.

It was heavily rumored throughout the summer until Apple made the confirmation during their Oct. 23 keynote from San Jose, California.

I purchased the iPad Mini on Oct. 26, a week prior the retail launch. In fact, I chronicled the preorder process. It arrived on Nov. 1, the same day as the retail launch, but it wasn't opened until today to mark a birthday. But with some free time, it was time to review the iPad Mini.

Size/Weight:

I for some reason pictured the iPad Mini to fit and be controlled in just one hand like I can do with my smartphone but handling it, for a beginner, will need two hands.

The iPad Mini features a height of 7.87-inches, width of 5.30-inches, and a depth of 0.28-inches.

The weight of the iPad Mini is unnoticeable. At 11.02-ounces, it isn't heavy; the meal I purchased from Burger King was a lot heavier.

The tablet can easily slip into one's bookbag for easy carrying.

Wireless Connectivity:

The iPad Mini is compatible with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth version 4.0.

I don't have a Bluetooth device, but as for the Wi-Fi, there was trouble connecting. The matter was solved quickly when checking the Settings on the iPad Mini. After a while, the problem came on again and it appears I have to revert to Settings every time I lose internet connection.

The load time for Safari is fast with video being displayed clear as my 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

Camera/Photography:

As a fan on larger screens, the picture screen of the iPad Mini is definitely a positive.

The front-facing camera has five-megapixels while the front-facing camera has 1.2 megapixels, however, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. It could have been the lightening in the room but both camera offered blurry images to several images taken. Some pictures were crisp and brilliant but the blur overcame the best pics.

Touchscreen:

I'll admit, I'm not a fan of touchscreen so the iPad Mini might be a learning experience to me. However, the tablet did test my patience when navigating through the apps. I would select the camera app and it would not start. At times, the search screen would appear as if I slide to far to the right. One moment startled me when it seems as if the iPad Mini froze.
