Just a couple of weeks ago, it has been reported that 20th Century Fox is choosing among Rebecca Ferguson, Abbey Lee, and Lea Seydoux to play the role of Belladonna Boudreux in the Channing Tatum-starred X-Men movie 'Gambit'. Now, Seydoux might have put the role in the bag.

According to the report by Deadline, Fox has offered the role to the French actress after initial plans of screen testing the three shortlisted actresses were cancelled when Ferguson withdrew to take a lead role in "The Girl on the Train" film. This leads to a choice between Seydoux and Lee.

Seydoux is a recipient of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or award for her role in the highly praised romantic drama "Blue is the Warmest Colour". She has also been cast to play Madeleine Swann in the James Bond film, "Spectre." Lee, meanwhile, starred in "Neon Demon" and has also appeared in the post-apocalyptic film "Mad Max: Fury Road". She will also be part of the Alex Proyas film "Gods Of Egypt."

Screen Rant mentioned that the choice between the two remaining stars for the role is not surprising as Seydoux is much more fitted for the character having been played the part of an assassin in "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol." Moreover, although the site previously reported that Ferguson is the fans' top choice for the hotly contested role in the Rupert Wyatt-directed X-Men spinoff given her impressive performance in the big action movie "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation," Seydoux still remains a great choice given her experience in doing action movies.

Belladonna Boudreux also known as 'Bella' and 'Bella the Assassin' is considered as one of the most important characters in the "Gambit" chronicle. As pointed by Screen Rant, she is Remy LaBeau's (Gambit) childhood friend and love who turned out to be a member of the assassin's guild that rivals Gambit's Thieves guild. The two were being forced into an arranged marriage but the event ended in tragedy when Gambit killed Bella's brother Julien in a death match. Gambit, with his mutant powers, eventually became the leader of the Thieves' guild while Belladonna was able to acquire her own powers, thereby leading the assassins' guild.

The report also added that although no official plot details are released for the "Gambit" movie, the film might take some elements from Remy and Belladonna's history which could possibly open potential basis for sequels in the "Gambit" universe.

"Gambit" is scheduled to be released on October 2016.
