Deron Williams has a chance to revive his faltering career with the Dallas Mavericks and from the looks of it he has his work cut out for him.

Though the Dallas Mavericks are bound to find the sailing rough for the coming 2015-16 NBA season, all eyes will still be on Williams as well as the other new recruits like Wes Matthews, JaVale Mcgee and the returning Samuel Dalembert.

Everyone knows how the Mavs’ fortunes got spurned ever since that celebrated turn-around of DeAndre Jordan and such seems to have botched all the plans the Mavs had for the coming season. Though Zaza Pachulia was signed instead, the fact remains that the Mavericks will find the going tough in the competitive Western Conference bracket.

Williams, who was sitting on pins and needles before finally reaching an agreement with the Brooklyn Nets, has a big load on his shoulders as the Mark Cuban tries to see if the former All Star guard still has what it takes to compete in the NBA.

The 31-year-old guard has lost his explosive self ever since leaving the Jazz and hopefully his misfortunes will end once he dons the Mavs uniform. But his past is bound to be a cause for concern as well.

Everyone knows the celebrated rift he had with then-coach Jerry Sloan in 2010, an issue that he denied but still stood out. Not long after, Williams was sent packing to the Nets and it seemed that the explosive guard had made New Jersey/ Brooklyn an instant contender with the move.

Sadly that never happened. Instead, Williams was lost and his five-year $98.2 million deal seemed more of a wasted investment than a wise one. Though the hopes were still high, the Nets and Williams reached a buy-out agreement and such paved the way for him to join Dallas.

Williams will have to recall his old form to help the Mavs campaign for the 2015-16 season. That includes blending in with old hands Dirk Nowitzki and the new guns like Matthews to somehow show up other teams for the coming season.

And then there is the issue of how he and head coach Rick Carlisle will get along. Will they sing sweet music together or will it be a follow-up to that Rondo vs. Carlisle issue that happened last season.

Williams may have gotten a break but apparently the buck doesn’t stop there. A lot is expected from him and if he fails to impress, chances are he will be looking for a new ballclub after the 2015-16 NBA season.
