Android M is getting closer to its launch date. Users can expect a number of great features to come with the new OS.

KnowYourMobile stated that instead of previously being believed to be named Android 6, the new OS will be called Android M, with most users predicting that M will still stand for a dessert. Google created an all-new design language for the new interface called Material Design. A Google designer described Material Design as having physical surfaces and edges. There are seams and shadows that give reference on what users can touch.

PC-Tablet reported that visual voicemail is one of the main features of the Android M. The feature allows users to access their voicemail using a visual interface instead of the traditional method where they get to listen to the available options. Currently, there are only two carriers that support visual voicemail, but more should be coming soon to ensure that all users get to enjoy the new access approach.

Android M will also feature App Permissions, allowing users to find a permission request when they try to use a feature for the first time, compared to being notified during the installation of the feature. Users will gain more control over access information, which is important for security purposes. Users will experience faster interaction as they navigate various apps and the internet using the new Custom Chrome Tabs. The new feature has a customized Chrome app that can be opened on top of an active app, instead of having to launch Chrome separately. Several features are supported by Custom Chrome Tabs, which will help integrate apps and enhance overall internet experience.

Based on the same PC-Tablet report, Android M was also improved in terms of power and charging. There are motion detectors that will detect when the device is idle, thereby improving standby time. Doze is another new function that will save power, as well as continue notifying the user throughout the day and sound alarms as necessary.

It is likely that Android M will include a type of SDK that provides smart home integration and Android Auto integration into the OS. Aside from better notifications, users expected a quick reply to these, where users can respond to messages or email without the need to leave their current app. Finally, users are also hoping for multi-window support, allowing two apps to be opened at the same time.

Android M is expected to release in September 2015.
