The WWE is mourning the passing of one of its Hall of Famers, Rowdy Roddy Piper.

The 61-year-old professional wrestler reportedly died in his sleep at his Hollywood home Thursday and was discovered only Friday. The news was first reported by TMZ Sports.

The original kilted warrior is best known for his feuds with Hulk Hogan, who was recently terminated by the WWE for his racist rants. Both were instrumental in the birth of Wrestlemania, which started a little more than three decades ago.

At that time, Piper teamed up with Paul “Mr. Wonderful” Orndorff in a tag team match against Hulk Hogan and actor Mister T.

During his prime, Piper was not as daring and flashy as most other WWE wrestlers, often relying on his smarts and unorthodox tactics when it was time to square off against his adversaries. He had plenty of tricks under his belt whose best trait was perhaps his courage as he was never known to back down from anyone.

Piper lived his character to the hilt, often a heel and later on a face wrestler. When he was still active in the competitive scene, he was always seen as the bad guy opposite face wrestlers like Hogan.

The Canadian wrestler also had his own segment called the "Piper’s Pit," a portion where he interviewed fellow wrestlers, which at times got down and dirty when tempers erupted.

When his career was slowly being shelved, Piper made occasional appearances but more of as a face wrestler with an attitude.

Piper, Roderick George Toombs in real life, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2006. He however told the Hillsboro Tribune in November 2014, that he was cancer-free.

At the time of his death, a source from Piper's family confirmed to TMZ that the former wrestler died free of cancer.

His untimely demise came at a time when the WWE is still reeling from the celebrated issue involving another WWE personality Hulk Hogan. The WWE cut its ties with the "Immortal One" after that celebrated racist rant issue involving his daughter Brook.

Piper left behind his wife Kitty and four children. He had three daughters and one son, Colton, who is pursuing a career in professional wrestling. Colton is also a mixed martial arts fighter.

Social media was sent into a frenzy after learning of Piper’s death. He is the second WWE legend who passed away after Dusty Rhodes died in June.
