Assassin's Creed will sneak into theaters in 2013, reports Games Industry International.

In an interview with the site, Ubisoft chief sales and marketing officer Geoffroy Sardin said, "Another thing that is very important for the lifecycle is the transmedia offer. All the figurines, the books, the publishing, and we have a movie in the next coming year. So it's not only about games, we are talking about a global brand, and this is the life cycle management we want to set up now."

The film will star Michael Fassbender, with production falling into the hands of the acclaimed actor's company, DMC. Fassbender's most famous works include X:Men First Class, Haywire, and Prometheus. He is set to return as Magneto in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and reprise the role of the android David in Prometheus 2.

CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures Julien Baronnet spoke to Variety about the casting process, stating that "Michael Fassbender was our first choice to play the franchise's iconic hooded hero. Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor."

Fassbender's breakthrough role was the character Bobby Sands in Steve McQueen's film about a Northern Irish prison, Hunger. Michael later teamed up with McQueen again in Shame, a compelling study of sex addiction.

The talented performer talked to Huffington Post about his filmic inspirations: " I've always been a big fan of the Coen brothers. The Big Lebowski is one of my all time faves. And Steve McQueen -- he's family to me now. We're so close on and off set. He changed my life, giving me the opportunity in Hunger. If I didn't get that break ... We were heading into a recession. There were fewer roles for fewer actors. For me, a thirty year old unknown to get a leading role, and somebody willing to take a risk -- that was a big deal and allowed me to show potential within the craft. I'm forever indebted."
