Good news comes for "Guardians of the Galaxy" fans, as they wouldn't have to wait until "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" to see the latest adventures of Star-Lord and the rest of the gang. Disney has just unveiled the first trailer for the "Guardians of the Galaxy" animated series.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" was a smash hit in theaters and some are even saying that it could be the best Marvel movie to date, even besting "The Avengers" or the first "Iron Man" movie. And this is impressive because the "Guardians of the Galaxy" isn't even well-known with mainstream comic book fans.

It seems that Marvel and Disney are now set to take advantage of the popularity of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" as they've released the first trailer for the animated series while confirming that it would be premiered on Disney XD on September.

As was noted by Adam Holmes of Cinema Blend, the new "Guardians of the Galaxy" animated series trailer takes the tone of the movie and applies it into cartoon form. Most of the comedy from the series would be from the badass Rocket Raccoon with his penchant to blow things up but viewers can expect Groot and Star-Lord to chime in on the comedy as well.

The report further shared that the plot of "Guardians of the Galaxy" will start with the team discovering a treasure map that was found in Star-Lord's DNA. The team determines that the treasure they are looking for is the mysterious Cosmic Seed. They learn about the Cosmic Seed as they decide to destroy it, so that its power can't be used by villains.

Cinema Blend confirms that the "Guardians of the Galaxy" would encounter Thanos, The Collector and Loki in the series.

Meanwhile, in a different report by Cinema Blend, James Gunn confirmed that the "Guardians of the Galaxy" animated series would not be connected to the MCU version of "Guardians of the Galaxy" as he dispels rumors that the "Guardians of the Galaxy" animated series would take place in between "Guardians of the Galaxy" 1 and 2.

"Is that what somebody said? Because that's not true. There's no way. It's totally separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and whoever said that, it pisses me off," said Gunn.

The "Guardians of the Galaxy" animated series will premiere on Disney XD on Sept. 26, 2015, while "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is set to be released to theaters in 2017.
