Kevin Owens is someone many believed would rise among the ranks of the WWE Main Event stars, seeing how the former WWE NXT champion has been ascending in the WWE regular roster.

Though Owens was seemingly limited to facing off against John Cena, many felt that such was a means of prepping the 31-year-old Canadian to the pack of wolves that the WWE had in line. If the latest reports are true, however, Owens may be demoted from the main event star to an upper mid-card position.

This would mean that Owens would join the likes of Dolph Ziggler, Rusev and Cesaro soon or probably end up facing Finn Balor, the man who defeated him for the WWE NXT title.

Rumors have it that some WWE personnel were unhappy with Owens. However, one name, WWE executive Kevin Dunn, has been singled out as possibly the reason behind Owen's impending demotion.

At WWE Battleground, many believed that Owens would defeat John Cena, part of an ongoing storyline which saw him lost the WWE NXT title to Balor.

Seeing that he has been doing great with Cena in their storyline feud, winning the United States title was considered as a passing of the torch of sorts by Cena to Owens. Hence, it was pretty much surprising to see Cena surviving cleanly over Owens.

Though it wasn’t much of an issue at first, word of the NXT wrestler facing some heat comes up. Could this be the end of Owens?

Well, it would depend on his progress. Apparently, the break he got lacked something. He became an instant hit when he showed up to start a feud with Cena back on May 18.

Owens gained attention and popularity all the more when he defeated Cena at the WWE Elimination Chamber.

The Cena vs Owens feud would of course continue but the former would return at WWE Money in the Bank to defeat the latter, and repeat the feat at the recently concluded WWE Battleground 2015 with his patented STF submission hold.

So, there are now questions waiting to be answered: what lies ahead for Owens? Will he have a match at WWE SummerSlam?

Ideally and if his feud with Cena is to continue, WWE fans would have seen that at WWE RAW. Instead, it was Cena coming out to confront the WWE Heavyweight champion Seth Rollins as the champion continued to brag about successfully holding on to the WWE title.

With Brock Lesnar now hooked up with the Undertaker and Roman Reigns still dealing with Bray Wyatt, a Rollins vs Cena could possibly be in the works.

What makes it interesting as well is that it would be a golden opportunity for Cena to win back the title he lost at the 2014 edition of WWE SummerSlam to Lesnar.
