Fans of "The Vampire Diaries" get hyped because a bunch of new details about the show has been unveiled following the aftermath of the San Diego Comic Con.

Following the departure of Nina Dobrev's character Elena Gilbert, it seems that the story of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 would be an interesting one and few cast members agree that the upcoming season of "TVD" is something that fans shouldn't miss.

As recapped by Kazem Sedighzadeh of Master Herald, we saw Elena being placed into a comatose state, from which she will not be able to wake up from as long as Bonnie remains alive. This means that she will remain in suspension for a long time unless there are timeline jumps, or if Bonnie is killed. But as we all know, Nina Dobrev's character has been written out of the show.

According to Kabita Maharana of the International Business Times, Ian Somerhalder has admitted that the upcoming season of "The Vampire Diaries" would be an exciting one as he notes that the storytelling of the latest season would harken back to classic seasons of the show.

"We're actually very excited about telling this story. Mystic Falls without Elena Gilbert is going to be very different. We want to go back to that season 1 and season 2 of storytelling," said Somerhalder.

But what more can we expect on "The Vampire Diaries" season 7?

Maggie Pehanick of Popsugar has detailed out a list as to what can fans of the show expect on the next season of "The Vampire Diaries"

"The Vampire Diaries" creator Julie Plec notes that Nina Dobrev's character leaving the show should not be the only focus of the series as she reminds fans that Jo and Alaric's babies were murdered and that the show would deal with that.

"When we meet Bonnie and Damon, they're with Alaric in Europe on a binge-drinking tour. They're basically two buddies and their sidekick, trying to drown their sorrows," said Plec.

Popsugar also notes that shippers of Stefan and Caroline should rejoice as the upcoming season of "The Vampire Diaries" would see that the relationship between these two characters would grow.

"The Stefan and Caroline relationship is continuing to blossom and grow," said Plec.

Of course, expect the new big bads, the Heretics, to live up to their name.

Producer Caroline Dries only had this to say when it comes to next big bads of the show, ""Picture Kai but times six."
