The first season of the hit television program, "Gotham," has shown viewers the mostly unknown origins of some of Batman's greatest villains. The show started out with only a handful of villains that are well known such as Poison Ivy, Cat Woman and the Penguin.

However, there was one episode during the first season which raised a lot of questions. This was episode 16, which was titled "The Blind Fortune Teller." During this episode, there was a disturbed young man, named Jerome (played by Cameron Monaghan), who reportedly was connected to Batman's most famous villain, the Joker. At the time of showing, viewers did not know if Jerome was actually the Joker or just part of the bigger picture.

Screenrant confirmed that Monaghan may be in fact the Joker and will be reprising his role as Jerome for Season 2. This origin story differs drastically from comics and movies since the Joker was never given a solid back story to work on. Everything to this point about the Joker has been shrouded in mystery and lies told by the Joker himself.

Monaghan has even gone out to post a picture on the social media site Instagram, showing that his character is actually the Joker. However, many avid fans of the show are saying that this may all be some kind of misdirection coming from "Gotham's" executive. Considering the nature of the character, this theory does have merit.

One thing certain for Season 2 of "Gotham" is that it will expand the rogues gallery a little bit more for the caped crusader to include long time Batman villains like Mr. Freeze and Clayface. Den of the Geek has reported that there will be new characters for the show to be added for season 2 as well.

One such villain will be Theo Galavan, who is the billionare brother of the villainess Tigress. These characters have yet to make it to the Batman comics similarly to Jade Pinket-Smith's character Fish Mooney. She served as the main villain for most of Season 1 before she was  killed during the season finale.

Currently for the other villains, no word as to who will be playing Mr. Freeze or Clayface is given. Nonetheless, Batman and his allies still have a lot of work to do if they are to keep Gotham safe.

"Gotham" Season 2  is set to be released on Sep 21, 2015 on Fox.
