Will we be seeing a different-looking Nexus 5 update?

Talk has it that the anticipated new version of the said handset will incorporate new design features.

According to a source who asked not to be named as the device is still undergoing development, the 2015 Nexus won't be based on the LG G4, which is largely expected to be the "blueprint" of its successor.

"The upcoming Nexus will be an entirely new device," AndroidPIT revealed. "There has been no confirmation yet as to why the 2015 Nexus would not be based on LG's current flagship."

The said handset has since been unofficially named Nexus 5 (2015).

AndroidPIT went on to speculate that the said Nexus model will cost less and will be smaller than the Nexus 6.

"The Nexus 6's popularity suffered in part from being so large a device. Likewise, its high price tag suddenly put it in a different league than the affordable, LG-built Nexus 5. To our minds at least, a cheaper, pocketable Nexus would be a wise move on Google's part," the site added.

Although the 2015 Nexus is pretty much shrouded in mystery, Google has said that "Android M will support USB-C charging and a fingerprint sensor," BGR noted.

"The company already showed off a custom Nexus 5 device that had a fingerprint sensor on the back in a video for developers at Google I/O," the tech news portal said.

"Possible hardware for the Nexus 5 2015 includes either a Full HD or Quad HD resolution display of at least 5-inches, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 or Snapdragon 808 chip, 3GB of RAM and 32GB, 64GB or 128 GB internal storage options, as well as a fingerprint scanner and a USB Type C port," iDigitalTimes speculated.

Meanwhile, an image, allegedly that of the 2015 Nexus, had been leaked recently. And the device in the picture does not look like earlier Nexus iterations. However, it appears to look similar to "a very thin Nexus 7 tablet," according to Know Your Mobile.

"It's quite small - clearly smaller than the Nexus 6 even, suggesting it may well have a 5in display and be a reboot of the Nexus 5," the site went on to say.

Further, since Android M will reportedly launch in August, some have predicted that Nexus 5 (2015) may also be revealed at around that time or sometime after that. A fall release would be likely.
