In what started out as a joke seems to be shaping up into something serious. At least if you believe in scripted or story-lined fights which are normally tied up in the world of sports entertainment like the WWE.

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is set to step into the ring thing coming September but it has yet to be known who the undefeated American would be facing.

It was initially believed that Amir Khan had the inside track, being the best boxer that Mayweather could face if he was indeed serious in facing a ‘solid’ opponent.

However, it seems that Mayweather has a different understanding of the word ‘solid.’ When asked on who he was considering, he came up with two names – Andre Berto and Karim Mayfield.

Critics believe that while the two fighters have credentials, they may not necessarily fall into the category of solid or someone worth fighting for. So is Mayweather taking it easy just to get to 49-0 and equalize the record of Rocky Marciano?

For now, the potential opponent has been trimmed to two. Unless Mayweather is throwing people off, chances are that his September fight will be purely about going through the motions of getting to 49-0.

Of the two, Berto seems to be getting attention since Mayweather reportedly has a score to settle with the flamboyant one.

According to Berto, he is being harassed by someone who he believes it Floyd Mayweather Jr. he has been receiving annoying calls over a woman believed to be Mayweather’s ex-fiancee Shantel Jackson.

Apparently, Berto is close with Jackson and her current boyfriend Nelly and such seems to be annoying the caller which he believes is Mayweather.

"I know it's him on the other line. I can hear him breathing," Berto said in a report from TMZ Sports.

Rather than think of a possible tiff with Floyd, the calls have reportedly been annoying and frustrating.

The allegations where eventually refuted by TMZ, calling Berto as delusional and it would be best to settle the issue in the ring.

On possibly fighting this September, Berto believes he can do better than Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao who lost via unanimous decision.

So is Berto trying to build hype or some sort of advantage when his name was mentioned as one of Mayweather’s possible opponents this September?

If The Money Team denies it then it is possible. But before moving ahead, it would be best to see who Mayweather will officially face, the fighter who signs on the dotted line.
