Bob Dylan, the septuagenarian folk/rock icon, often referred to as a prophet for his times, has prophesied that President Barack Obama will be re-elected in a landslide victory today.
The singer made the comment to a crowd attending his Wisconsin concert last night, as reported by The Associated Press, following an encore of perhaps one of his most famous songs, “Blowin’ in the Wind.”
The AP quoted Dylan as saying, “We tried to play good tonight since the President was here today," referring to a visit by Mr. Obama made earlier in the day at a Madison rally that featured another famous supporter with a huge fan base, Bruce Springsteen.
Dylan went on to say, “Don’t believe the media. I think it’s going to be a landslide.”
The question of who will be our next President, Barack Obama, or the former Massachusetts governor Republican Mitt Romney, will not be blowin’ in the wind much longer, but is now being registered at polling stations around the country.
Rolling Stone magazine published an interview with Dylan in September in which journalist Mikal Gilmore repeatedly attempts to get the musician to express his thoughts on the President. As quoted by writer Andrew Kirell on the website Mediaite in his article, “Rolling Stone Desperately Tries (And Fails) to Get Bob Dylan to Profess Love For Obama,” the results didn’t yield much, as Dylan appeared to become increasingly exasperated.
He finally responded, “He loves music. He’s personable. He dresses good. What the fuck do you want me to say?” He then added, “I’ve lived through a lot of presidents! …Being re-elected isn’t the mark of a great president.”
Minnesota-born Bob Dylan, whose birth name was Robert Allen Zimmerman, was awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama on May 30. It is the highest civilian honor. Dylan, a self-professed born-again Christian released his 35th studio album last month, “Tempest.”
