Samsung has been working hard at keeping its mobile devices updated with the latest Android operating system. Sure, many of them are still patiently waiting for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but a new report states that Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners could be seeing Android 4.2 in Q1 2013.

The report comes to us from SamMobile, which is crediting the tip to an insider. Apparently Samsung will begin releasing Android 4.2 in Q1 2013, and the two devices that will get it first will be the two most popular - the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 smartphones.

Q1 2013 runs from January to March. Expect the update to roll out closer to the tail end of Q1 2013 since the Galaxy S3 is still in the process of being upgraded to Android 4.1.1.

The same report also mentions that the original Galaxy Note and Galaxy S2 could be getting an Android 4.1.2 update rather than Android 4.1.1. Good news for those with the older, yet still relevant and powerful, Samsung handsets.

Android 4.2 was just announced by Google last week, and while the new edition isn't a complete overhaul, it does offer some interesting new features.

For starters, there will now be the option to create multiple user accounts so people can log in and out just like a PC. This will allow friends and family members to share the same device, yet retain their own apps, game saves, and preferences.

The new 'Photo Sphere' mode allows users to take panoramic pictures and even upload them to Google Maps. Talk about crowdsourcing Street View. On top of that, Google Now, the Android voice assistant, has been improved and will now even suggest great spots to take photos based on your current location.
