With the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 smartphones set to debut for exclusively for AT&T, Verizon is preparing to launch their Lumia 822.

Nokia signed an exclusive an exclusive deal with Verizon shortly after AT&T confirmed their Nokia deal. The Lumia 822 will start accepting preorders on Friday morning, the same day as the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 will be available for purchase in AT&T retailers.

Nokia and Verizon are hoping to see their Lumia device compete with the Samsung Galaxy S3, currently the best selling smartphone, even beating the latest iPhone from Apple.

But what does the Lumia 822 have against the Galaxy S3.

While the two smartphones will be available in 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE networks, as previously noted, the Lumia 822 will be available on for Verizon Wireless while the Galaxy S3 has a wider release with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, as well as Verizon.

The Galaxy S3 features a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED screen with 1,280x720 pixel resolution with 306 pixels per inch (ppi). The Lumia 822 has a smaller screen with 4.3-inches with a pixel resolution of 800x480 with 217 ppi.

For the internal memory, the Lumia 822 is only available with the 16GB model with 1GB of RAM. The Galaxy S3 also offer the 16GB as well as 32GB and 64GB but maintains the 1GB of RAM.

The two smartphones offers a microSD card slot for up to 64GB of space.

Wireless connectivity in the Lumia 822 includes the Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, starts up with Bluetooth version 3.1, and Near Field Communication (NFC). The Galaxy S3 offers the same connectivity except it starts with Bluetooth version 4.0 and adds Wi-Fi hotspot.

The rear-facing camera of the Galaxy S3 offers eight-megapixels with 3,264x2,448 pixels and a rear-facing camera with 1.9 megapixels.

Despite the smaller features in the Lumia 822, the Nokia smartphone offers the same rear-facing camera features as the Galaxy S3 but a front-facing camera of 1.2 megapixels.

For the videos, both smartphones have the rear-facing camera recording with 1080p at 30 frames per second (fps) and the front-facing camera recording in 720p at 30 fps.

Verizon is also touting the Lumia 822 as their first Windows Phone 8 device. The Windows Phone 8 is the latest mobile operating system from Microsoft while the Android's Jelly Bean is upgradable on the Galaxy S3. The original mobile operating system on the Galaxy S3 is the Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

The battery capacity for the Lumia 822 is 1,800 mAh with a standby time of 400 hours in 3G and 11 hours and 40 minutes for talk time when in 3G and fully charged. The Galaxy S3 has a higher capacity of 2,100 mAh with standby time of 790 mAh and the same talk time as the Samsung device.

When it comes to colors, the Lumia 822 is available in black, gray, and white while the Samsung device offers black, blue, brown, gray, red, and white.

According to Verizon, the starting price for the Lumia 822 will be $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and with a new two year contract.
