Evan Mathis has been released by the Philadelphia Eagles but he is expected to be signed up by another team soon.

But the question is where?

Whenever a big time player such as Mathis becomes available, expect teams to scamper and see if they can lure him into their fold with the hopes of improving their team’s chances next season.

The 33-year-old veteran had spent his last four seasons with the Eagles but contract issues eventually became the final resort for the two-time Pro Bowl selection.

The Eagles was placed on the trading block as early as March of this year but apparently there were no takers at that time.

The team took back an offer on the table for Mathis, something which would have seen him get a pay hike from $5.5 million to $6.5 million which Mathis declined. And the development is believed to be one of the main reasons why Mathis was evidently given his walking papers.

So what lies ahead for Mathis? There are four potential teams he could eventually land on.

Seattle Seahawks

That includes the Seattle Seahawks where Mathis could fit in perfectly with the zone-blocking scheme. Mathis could fit in perfectly with the Seahawks vaunted zone attack. Moreover, the team has $10 million available in salary cap space which could be more than enough to accommodate the veteran NFL guard.

Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are another possible destination and they don’t have to give up anyone for him in the process. His entry could land him the starting spot over at the Dolphins over Dallas Thomas, Billy Turner and Jamil Douglas.

New York Giants

The New York Giants could be interested as well, seeing that they need drastic help in the offensive line. The team lost left tackle Will Beaty and have been relying on Ereck Flowers to hold fort. A Mathis entry can severely provide the flexibility the team needs up front.

Denver Broncos

Another destination could be the Denver Broncos.

Coach Gary Kubiak is hardpressed to get a guard to aid Peyton Manning despite the presence of guards like Shelley Smith and Max Garcia but Mathis’ experience could improve that guard line immensely.

With his release, Mathis gets the chance to see how much he is really worth in the market. Apparently this was something he wanted for the last couple of years and that time has now come.

Mathis has proven to be a big part of the Eagles’ extensive zone blocking so it will be interesting to see how he fits in with the team he eventually ends up with.

Despite a ripe age of 33, will Mathis be able to get something better than what the Eagles placed on the table ($6.5 million)?
