November brings some of the most anticipated blockbuster films of the year as well as the many Oscar hopefuls.

The month of November kicks off on the 2nd with the release of Flight, The Man with the Iron Fists and Wreck-it Ralph.

Flight, starring Denzel Washington and directed by Rebert Zemeckis, opened at the Closing Night film at the New York Film Festival and tells the story of an airline pilot who saves a flight from crashing. He then goes under investigation when the reason for the malfunctions is revealed.

Wreck-it Ralph starring John C. Reilly has scored rave reviews and tells the story of a video game villain yearning to be a hero and sets out to fulfill his dream.

The last of the films is The Man with the Iron Fists, starring Russell Crowe and directed by RZA, tells the story of a band of warriors, assassins, and a rogue British soldier in search for a fabled treasure of gold.

In the art house theater A Late Quartet starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, and Christopher Walken opens. The film is about members of a world-renowned string quartet who struggle to stay together in the face of death, competing egos and insuppressible lust. The other major art house film This Must be the Place starring Sean Penn and Franes McDormand comes out a year after its Cannes debut. The film tells the story of Cheyenne, a retired rock star living off his royalties in Dublin, who returns to New York City to find the man responsible for a humiliation suffered by his recently deceased father during WWII.

What to watch: Flight is definitely the film to see as it has the most Oscar buzz surrounding it and it is the return of Robert Zemeckis to Live Action in 8 years.

On November 9th Skyfall will make its debut. The film directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Ben Whishaw, Javier Bardem, and Ralph Fiennes is the follow up to 2008's Quantum of Solace. The film story tests Bond's relationship to M when her past comes back to haunt her.

In art house theaters Steven Spielberg's epic tale Lincoln about the last few months of the Civil war comes out in limited release. The film boasts an all star cast including Daniel Day Lewis, Joseph Gordon-Leviit, Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field, John Hawkes, and Jackie Earle Haley. The Denmark Oscar hopeful A Royal Affair which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival comes to the New York and Los Angeles. The film tells the story of a young queen, who is married to an insane king, and then falls secretly in love with her physician - and together they start a revolution that changes a nation forever. The film stars rising star Alicia Vikander and Mads Mikkelsen.

What to Watch: Skyfall is the film to watch as it boasts an all star cast and director and is being praised as one of the best 007 films.

 

On November 16th Spielberg's Lincoln opens Nationwide along with the Epic finale to the Twilight series. Breaking Dawn Part 2 continues the story of the Twilight Sage after the birth of Renesmee. The Cullen's gather other vampire clans in order to protect the child from a false allegation that puts the family in front of the Volturi.

In the art house theaters period piece Anna Karenina debuts. Set in late-19th-century Russia high-society, the aristocrat Anna Karenina enters into a life-changing affair with the affluent Count Vronsky. The film reunites Keira Knightley and Joe Wright for their third collaboration. The film also stars Jude Law, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Kelly McDonald, and Emily Watson.

What to Watch: While Anna Karenina is one of the most intriguing films of the year due to its theatrical approach,Lincoln is definitely the film to see as it is one of Spielberg's passion projects and one that has been anticipated for years.

On November 21, Thanksgiving weekend sees the release of four major films. The first is the Ang Lee directed film Life of Pi based on the Yann Martel children's book. The film tells the story of an Indian boy named Pi, a zookeeper's son who finds himself in the company of a hyena, zebra, orangutan, and a Bengal tiger after a shipwreck sets them adrift in the Pacific Ocean. The film opened the New Film Festival and is said to be an Oscar frontrunner.

The Oscar frontrunner Silver Linings Playbook also opens starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper and directed by David O.Russell. After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own. The film has already won numerous awards including Audience choice awards at the Toronto, Austin and Hamptons Film Festivals and won numerous Hollywood Film awards.

Hollywood Film Award winner Rise of the Guardians is also released that weekend. When the evil spirit Pitch launches an assault on Earth, the Immortal Guardians team up to protect the innocence of children all around the world. The film stars Hugh jackman, Alec Baldwin and Isla Fisher.

The last of the films is Red Dawn which tells the story of a group of teenagers who look to save their town from an invasion of North Korean soldiers.

In the art house two major Oscar hopefuls open on the 23th. Hitchcock which reveals the story behind the making of Psycho stars Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Scarlet Johansson, James D'Arcy, Toni Collette, and Jessica Biel.

The other is French film Rust and Bone by Jacque Audiard. Put in charge of his young son, Ali leaves Belgium for Antibes to live with his sister and her husband as a family. Ali's bond with Stephanie, a killer whale trainer, grows deeper after Stephanie suffers a horrible accident. The film stars Marion Cotillard and rising star Matthias Schoenaerts.

What to Watch: Audiences heading to the movies for the 21st releases should see Silver Lings Playbook as it is the Oscar Frontrunner and the film everyone will be talking about at the end of the year awards.

Those headed for a new film on the 23rd should check out Rust and Bone which comes from the director of Un Prophet and stars the Oscar winner Marion Cotillard.

On November 30 the end of the month sees the releases of the two time delayed Brad Pitt starrer Killing them Softly. The film tells the story of Jackie Cogan, a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that went down during a mob-protected poker game. Pitt reunites with director Andrew Dominik after their successful 2007 film The Assassination of a Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

What to Watch: The obvious choice is Killing Them Softly which premiered at Cannes to Raves. However due to the limited number of films Hitchcock, Life of Pi are also choices to see if audiences missed them the week before.
