Miguel Cotto announced talks are underway to make his fight with the famed Mexican star Canelo Alvarez happen. The WBC middleweight champion, however, has yet to face Daniel Geale before he could set his full attention to Alvarez," Boxing Scene reported

Cotto is scheduled to fight Daniel Geale on June 6 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Cotto has a record of 39 wins, 32 of which was via knock outs, in his 43 professional fights. Geale, meanwhile, has won 31 of his 34 professional fights, 16 of which he achieved via knock outs.

In an interview published by Heavy.com, Cotto was quoted saying that he is "happy and excited to be back in New York and fighting at Barclays Center." He is currently training under boxing coach legend Freddie Roach.

"I'm committed to train as hard as always and bring a big victory. I'm looking forward to seeing all the Puerto Rican fans on June 6 and to being part of another exciting boxing night in Brooklyn," Cotto shared.

Geale, meanwhile, pointed out Cotto's weakness against more agile fighters. "He knows that's what I'm going to be doing and he's going to be trying to counter that with aggression and coming forward," Geale added.

The Cotto vs. Geale fight is to be aired live on HBO. This will be Cotto's first title defense of the WBC World middleweight belt that he snatched from Sergio Martinez.

Efforts have been made to seal the Cotto vs. Alvarez fight deal. With HBO and Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions at the helm, the mega fight will definitely push through later this year, according to BoxingScene.com.

Cotto has recently joined Roc Nation Sports promotions for a $50 million, 3-fight contract while Alvarez is being managed by Golden Boy Promotions.

Alvarez declared that he is not afraid and is determined to fight Cotto.

"That is what I do. I fight for myself and for the fans. I'm not afraid of any fighter. Cotto is a champion and the kind of fighter I want to fight." Alvarez said.

"I'm coming out into my fight. I will do the job that Freddie [Roach] has designed in my training camp...Whatever HBO has thought-out, whatever Oscar De La Hoya or Saul Alvarez has thought-out- I don't care about that," Cotto said in the Boxing Scene report.

Cotto is currently the only Puerto Rican boxer to hold the champion title in four different weight classes.
