Jennifer Lawrence has recently confirmed that her role as Mystique will come to an end in the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" movie. The Oscar-award winning actress known for her roles in the movies "Silver Linings Playbook" and "Hunger Games" film series revealed this in an interview with MTV during the red carpet premiere of her new film with Bradley Cooper, "Serena."

"It is my last one, actually," Lawrence told MTV.

"It's not a shock to hear that Lawrence and 'X-Men' are parting ways, even if it's difficult to swallow; her work as Mystique has been one of the major highlights of the rebooted franchise ever since 'X-Men: First Class'. But with the casting of new mutants Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm, and the time-altering ending of 'Days of Future Past', it sure seems like a new era of "X-Men" is about to begin, while the reign of James McAvoy's Xavier, Michael Fassbender's Magneto, Nicholas Hoult's Beast and Lawrence's Mystique draws to its natural end," MTV's Josh Wigler wrote in the report.

Slash Film also considers this not surprising but noted that this announcement could only mean that Lawrence, at the moment, still has no plans of returning to the franchise and that she could always change her mind.

Note that there were earlier reports pointing to Lawrence having her own "X-Men" Spin-off. "X-Men: First Class" writer-producer Simon Kinberg was quoted in reports praising Lawrence for what she did for the Mystique role. He also said that since it's a movie with a huge ensemble, it is better if there could be more opportunity if they follow Mystique's story.

But if Lawrence really decides not to reprise her role in future "X-Men" movies, it could be possible that Rebecca Romijn who is known for playing Mystique in the original film could again step in, Cinema Blend says.

It is said that the storyline of "X-Men: Apocalypse" is expected to be set in the 1980s, following the "traditions" of the previous movies "X-Men: First Class" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" which were set in the 1960s and 1970s, respectively. The new movie will be hitting theaters next year.

Aside from Lawrence, McAvoy, and Fassbender, the movie's cast list also includes Oscar Isaac, Rose Byrne, and other new young faces like "Game of Thrones" actress Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, "Tree of Life" actor Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, "American Horror Story" star Evan Peters as Quicksilver, and "The Road" actor Kodi Smit-McPhee as the young Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler.

For the meantime, here's the trailer of the 2014 movie "X-Men: Days of Future Past":
