"Game of Thrones" actor Jason Momoa, cast to play the role Aqua Man in the much-awaited DC Comics movie "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice," has recently fired shots at Marvel.
Cinema Blend reported that Momoa was earlier spotted at the Indiana Comic Con wherein he met some fans and signed posters and other memorabilia. One particular fan named Liz Guadiana bravely asked the actor to answer "why all these DC haters out there should join our DC universe."
Momoa, with no hesitations, then answered her with "F**k Marvel." Here is a photo of the "Unite the Seven" poster with Momoa's answer and signature on it.
According to Cinema Blend, it is of course likely that the actor might just be joking around when he did that though there is also a possibility that he has some "ill feelings" for Marvel.
"[I]t's entirely possible there may be some lingering ill feelings between the actor and Marvel. At one point, Momoa was in the discussion to play Drax the Destroyer in Marvel's smash space adventure Guardians of the Galaxy, a role that eventually went to former professional wrestler Dave Bautista.
"The Red Road star passed on the role, saying it was too similar to the painted up, shirtless roles he'd played before, especially Ronon in Stargate: Atlantis. Instead, he wanted to focus on other endeavors, like directing the thriller Road to Paloma. Still, Aquaman seems pretty shirtless and painted to us," Cinema Blend's Brent McKnight noted.
DC and Marvel are considered rivals. Note that this is not the first time that somebody from a particular studio spoke about such difference between the two. For instance, Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury in the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron" movie, earlier spoke about the same thing.
"I think Marvel has figured out a way to make those movies accessible to the public that DC hasn't...I don't know what that is. I don't know why you can't get Batman and Superman people as juiced up to be a part of that," Jackson said in an interview with MTV, via International Business Times.
Warner Bros. Chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara also talked about the difference between the two, saying in a Variety article, "The worlds of DC are very different...They're steeped in realism, and they're a little bit edgier than Marvel's movies."
"Batman vs Supeman: Dawn of Justice" is set to hit theaters in March 2016. Aside from Momoa, the movie stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" is written by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer and is directed by Zack Snyder.
