Michael Sam did an excellent job during his first appearance on the TV show "Dancing With The Stars".

USA Today reported that the first openly gay NFL draft pick danced the Cha Cha with his partner Peta Murgatroyd. The two danced to the beat of "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson. From the time the two were seen on the dance floor, they featured the style and electricity that could spell they will be on the show for a while.

TMZ featured a video of the dance number, which blew away the judges. The judges were particular about Sam's behind.

Bruno said, "That butt was a work of art. Michaelangelo's 'David' has nothing on you."

Len said, "You could win "Rear of the Year" and I could win "Ass of the Past".

Washington Post ranked Sam and Murgatroyd at No. 5, tying for fourth place. The judges scored 6, 6, 7, 7, for a total score of 26 points. The highest achievable score is 40. The judges detailed the performance.

According to Bruno, the number was very well-done but Julianne said that his footwork was a bit sloppy, which garnered boos from the audience. However, Julianne did mention that Sam has a great vibe. Len also described Sam's footwork as "atrocious" but said that the dancing was excellent.

Carrie Ann told Sam, "You are a beautiful gorgeous man and you have an incredible body." Carrie Ann also said that the 25-year-old has to improve his feet and take out the fake smile.

The video, presented by USA Today, features Sam practicing with Murgatroyd. Peta said that Sam had a lot of energy, being able to train for hours, despite preparing for the NFL combine at the same time. The dance number followed, showing Sam shaking his assets. The crowd obviously loved the performance.

Sam is currently a free agent after being cut by the St. Louis Rams. Based on the same report by USA Today, Sam is also training for the NFL combine.

He said that "Dancing With The Stars" is a good way for him to get into the best shape of his life before he shows off his skills at the NFL event. He also said that he wanted to silence his critics.

According to Sam, ballroom dancing is tougher than football. CBS Sports reported that Sam earned an invite to the vet's combine, edging out Tim Tebow and Vince Young.
