The season three premiere of 'The Walking Dead' on Sunday saw Rick and his zombie apocalypse survivors after a winter of evading walkers since leaving the farm. The episode, entitled "Seed," finds the ragged group of survivors as they come upon a prison that might just prove to be the safe haven they need to survive.

"Seed" begins with Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Carl (Chandler Riggs) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) as they empty a house of walkers in hopes of having a quick rest before moving on. Unfortunately for the group, the house sweep yields no viable food options save for two cans of dog food.

The group's stay in the house doesn't last long after T-Dog (IronE Singleton) notices a cluster of walkers headed towards the house. Silently, the survivors exit the house and gain some distance from the walkers. Rick and the group continue on the move as they search for a safe haven where they can rest and Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) can give birth.

Their hopes for sanctuary are answered when Rick and Daryl come upon a prison during a hunting trip. While not ideal, the prison, which is designed to keep people in, is the best option for keeping walkers out. The prison also the best bet to find food, weapons, ammo and medicine.

Under the command of Rick, in all his Ricktatorship power, the group manages to successfully clear the prison yard of all zombies. After their success, Lori attempts to talk to Rick about her soon-to-be born child and how he might not be the father. Rick, however, is in no mood to discuss his wife's pregnancy and tells her, "I'm doing stuff, Lori. Things," the Los Angeles Times reported.

The next day, the group continues to sweep through the prison, clearing out a cellblock of walkers. Their sweep leads them to a series of dark hallways that puts them in the path of a wave of walkers. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Glenn (Steven Yeun) are momentarily separated from the group and are found by Hershel (Scott Wilson), but not before a walker takes a quick chomp out of Hershel's leg.

The group grabs Hershel and in a disturbing turn of events, Rick decides to hack off Hershel's leg in an attempt to save his life. During the process the group of survivors come upon five live prisoners that are staying on the other side of the cafeteria. Whether they're friends or foes, remains to be seen.

Outside of the group, fans are fully introduced to Michonne (Danai Gurira), who is working at protecting Andrea (Laurie Holden). Andrea, of course, is very sick and close to dying but continues to forge on.

More details of the duo's journey and Andrea's health are previewed for next week's episode. Fans will also find out what happens to Hershel and are finally introduced to the Governor.

'The Walking Dead' S3E2 airs Sunday, October 21 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
