Google just released an incremental update to Android 4.1.1 that has been dubbed Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, but techies are already on the lookout for what's coming next to Android users. It's recently become more obvious that the next Android release won't be Android 5.0, but rather an Android 4.2 (whether Android 4.2 or Android 5.0 will be called 'Key Lime Pie' is still up in the air).
Website AndroidPolice somehow recently got their hands on the Gmail app for Android 4.2, and showed it off in a new video. The video highlights two new features: a delete/archive swipe option, and the much-coveted pinch zoom.
Gmail in Android 4.2 will apparently allow you to simply swipe emails off screen to either delete or archive them, based on what you change your settings to. This is similar to notifications, and the new Gmail even offers an undo button for all those accidental swipes that are bound to happen.
The pinch zoom is exactly what it sounds like, pinch the screen to zoom in, or spread your fingers apart to zoom out. A very useful feature, and one that is sure to be one of the new Gmail's most-used features.
Android 4.2 has not yet received an official nod from Google, but AndroidAuthority reports that systems using an operating system Android 4.2 have been been found in their server logs and Google Analytics. They report that Android 4.2 was first spotted in mid-August, with a recent spike. AndroidAuthority states that some of the devices running the Android 4.2 were the Google Nexus 7, the Galaxy Nexus, and some Sony handsets.
So while most of the world's Android devices are waiting for their Android 4.1.1 update, those with Google-branded smartphones and tablets already have access to Android 4.1.2, and you can bet they will be the first to get Android 4.2 when it hits.
