The Mars Curiosity Rover is still on the lookout for some signs of extraterrestrial life, and a cat statue found among the Martian landscape may just be the proof that scientists need, Inquisitr reported.

While some scientists are starting to consider the possibility of microbial life on the planet, a few others are more interested in the possibility of any kind of entity, alien or otherwise, as existing or having existed on the planet.

This has led to its fair share of speculations and a few outlandish theories from UFO aficionados, especially those who are pointing out what could be artifacts which may prove a thriving civilization or the existence of beings who may have lived on Mars.

One of the so-called artifacts which alien and UFO enthusiasts are pointing out is what seems to be a cat statue found among the photographs taken by the Curiosity Rover.

YouTuber UFOvni2012 is one of the first who considered the possibility, even posting a video online explaining the theory. According to the YouTuber, there seems to be something more to the rock formation found by the Curiosity Rover on the surface of the planet.

Scott Waring from UFO Sightings Daily even posted an illustration of what the said statue could be, drawing out what might have been the ears, eyes and mouth of the statue.

A blogger from Ugo Sightingz also pointed out another cat-like figure, this time with other photos taken from NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab website.

While believers may be in a tizzy over whether or not this is finally the proof to get naysayers wrong, the Curiosity Rover is busy doing its own thing.

The Curiosity Rover landed on Mars on Aug. 6, 2012 and has since been busy scoping out the planet's environmental condition and signs of microbial life. Analysis of mudstone slabs also showed that some areas of the planet were once lakebeds of mild water, chemical energy and also other essential ingredients that meant something, even microbial life, possibly thrived on the planet, according to Chron.

Now, the Rover is set to perform a mini-drill test on a rock called Mojave, according to Space.

A photo taken last week showed the rover getting ready to drill to Martian rock. The mini-drill testing is being done to assess the stone's suitability for full-on drilling and possibly collecting samples of mysterious crystal shapes that were found on the rock.

If successful, scientists said that the Curiosity Rover may have found what could be mineral salts left behind from a lake that evaporated on the planet.
