Coming off four Emmy wins and a gripping first season, Showtime's drama series 'Homeland' returns to screens on September 30 for its second season. Fans will be able to dive right in to see where Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) and Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) are in their lives.

Executive producer Alex Gansa shared a few spoilers with fans over the summer as to what they can expect for the exciting second season. The premiere episode of season two will fast forward six months and will find both main characters in two different places, Gansa said.

Carrie Mathison:

According to TV Line, Gansa told reporters that Carrie will kick off 'Homeland' having just spent six months of "psychiatric care" and a CIA-free lifestyle. Actress Claire Danes, who plays the bi-polar CIA analyst, said, "She doesn't have the same defensiveness. She's been very humbled and she's suffering from a crisis of confidence. She gets her mojo back but it takes some time."

Carrie is also no longer working for the CIA when the series begins for season two, Gansa told HuffPost TV, "She's been excommunicated from the agency, so she's not an agent anymore. She's not an intelligence officer anymore. She is literally not in that business when we pick up the season," the executive producer said.

"Carrie has had, for the first time in her life, the benefit of professional help for her disease. She will have been in the psych ward for awhile. She will have been in the care of a psychiatrist for six months. She will have undergone a series of these ECT therapies," Gansa said.

The executive producer added, "So when we find her as the second season picks up, she will be in a place where she is centered and quiet and together in a way that we haven't seen her before."

Danes, who is pregnant with her first child, also told reporters that her character would not be pregnant this upcoming season. According to TV Line, Danes said, "Carrie remains fervently non-pregnant."

Nicholas Brody:

Gansa told HuffPost TV that fans will find Brody playing a slightly different role in the season two opener. "Brody, on the other hand, he is going to be a congressman as the season opens," Gansa said. "His seat is vacated through a scandal, and he was appointed by the governor into that seat for a temporary period of time until the election."

The executive producer added that Brody will eventually run for office himself. But Brody will also have to juggle his role as a terrorist as well and whether or not he will follow Nazir's (Navid Negahban) instructions. Gansa told HuffPost TV, "...The one thing that Nazir could never have predicted is this growing attachment he has to his homeland, America, and to his family, especially to his daughter."

According to TV Line, actor Damien Lewis, who plays Brody, revealed that his character will spend the season "in a state of heightened anxiety and paranoia...He's more knowingly juggling balls. But essentially he's everybody's bitch."

The actor also shared that their will be a "pivotal moment" that will be reminiscent of season 1's "Weekend" episode. "Carrie very much has the upper hand," Lewis said. "It's less romantically inclined than professionally inclined but it's just as complex."

Guest Stars & Series Regulars:

Gansa also shared with HuffPost TV who will be coming back to the series as regular cast members but remained tight-lipped on who would be guest staring in the drama. "Well, the vice president [Jamey Sheridan] is a series regular this year, so is Abu Nazir [Navid Negahban], and so is David Marciano, who plays Virgil," Gansa said. "Those are the people that we're going to bring into the fold more this year and there are surprises along the way with some of the characters, which I really can't talk about because they would spoil the first couple of episodes"

'Homeland' season two returns on September 30 at 10 p.m. EST on Showtime.
