Where are the best places to head to this Christmas?

If you're keen on being at the places that know how to celebrate this holiday season best, these destinations, as recommended by CNN, will have you thanking your stars for having visited one of them:

Lapland, Finland

Where else is better than Santa Claus' official homeland? If you ask the Finns, that is. For the locals, "Rovaniemi, Lapland, located just north of the Arctic Circle, is Christmas HQ," CNN said.

"Here, children make gingerbread cookies with Mrs. Claus, enroll in Elf School or take a calligraphy class and compose their Christmas wish lists with a traditional quill," the news source added.

Definitely sounds like the perfect place to bring your little ones to, if you're traveling with your family.

If you're up for adventure, spend a night at the Arctic Snow Hotel, which is "made entirely of snow and ice, but equipped with saunas and hot tubs in which to thaw."

Strasbourg, France

This is the place to be for true-blue foodies, thanks to the place's villages that turn into a "visual and gastronomic wonderland" come Christmas time. There's also fantastic music to serve as a fitting soundtrack to your French sojourn, thanks to Strasbourg's series of concerts and cultural activities.

Nuremberg, Germany

Three words: Nuremberg Christmas market. It's locally known as the Nurnberger Christkindlesmarkt.

"Medieval Nuremberg, ringed by walls with 80 towers, sheltered by the castle of the Holy Roman Emperors, seems like something out of a fairy tale at any time of year. But in dark December it dazzles, its 400-year-old Christkindlesmarkt the prototype for Christmas markets across Europe," said The Telegraph's contributor Ray Kershaw. There's also the fact that all goods displayed are those that are only made by hand and are traditional.

MailOnline also revealed that this travel destination is among those that gives you the best value deal this season, costing a little over $700 (£453) for each person.

Reykjavik, Finland

"In this otherworldly landscape, daylight is a four-hour affair and the liquid-green aurora borealis illuminates the nighttime sky," said Travel and Leisure. " Statues of the 12 Yule Lads (the Icelandic version of Santa Claus) peer out from every corner shop and window."

Quebec City, Canada

Environment advocates will love this city as it features a number of ecological Christmas accoutrements, such as a Christmas tree made with recycled sheet metal and lights "powered by the pedaling of nearby cyclists," as noted by CNN. The 400-year old walled city also gives that European feel and makes Christmas in Quebec City a traditionally inspirational one.
