Analysts have projected that the iPhone 5 will be in Verizon's favor due to more 4G LTE coverage across the US, but now news of the smartphone being unlocked under the carrier might give them a further advantage.

The advantage, Verizon's iPhone 5 accepts the same SIM card as AT&T.

The Associated Press reported that this is the first time iPhones from Verizon is accessible on AT&T's network.

Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney ultimately confirmed the report that their iPhone devices are being sold "unlocked" but for its GSM networks.

Those who have purchased the iPhone 5 from Verizon might not be able to switch to AT&T's network despite the news due to signing the two-year contract, but it does give the customer the option of switching carriers once the contract expires.

However, once the two-year contract ends, we'll probably be anticipating the iPhone 6 or iPhone 7.

iDownloadBlog noted otherwise on Friday that "...that you can use a Verizon iPhone 5 on AT&T or T-Mobile, freely, even if you're a brand-new customer under contract."

The latest Apple smartphone is being sold at the same price as the iPhone 4S when it was released last year starting at $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, $399 for 64GB when under contract with either AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon.
