Bad news to all 5 Seconds of Summer fans. The Australian pop rock band has called off few of its upcoming shows and trips after one of its members, drummer Ashton Irwin, has been hospitalized due to appendicitis.

The band made the announcement in a post on its website 5sos.com. The post said Ashton has to undergo an operation for appendicitis. The post, however, stated that he is "doing great and will be back up and running in no time." Ashton, the statement read, also has to rest for a week or so.

The unexpected event has forced them to postpone their trip to Japan next week. "Unfortunately this means that we'll no longer be able to fly back to the UK this weekend for the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards," they added.

In their post, the band apologized to their fans who planned to see them. They also said they were so excited to see them and that they didn't want to make them sad. They asked for their understanding.

They also thanked them for their continued support and told them that they love them. "Can't wait for us four lads to get back on the road, minus one band appendix, and rock out with you all again soon!"

Ashton Irwin, on other hand, said in a post in his Twitter account @Ashton5SOS that he is so sorry to all those he has let down and promised to make it up to them. He also allayed his fans' worries and fears, saying that he'll be better soon. He also thanked them for their love.

Meanwhile, entertainment and celebrity news site Entertainment Tonight said in a news report that band lead vocalist and guitarist Luke Hemmings might have a crush on American actress and singer Selena Gomez.

According to the report, the boys revealed in an interview with Nova FM that Selena "is the most famous celebrity who follows them on Twitter." When asked if they've sent a message to Selena's on-off boyfriend Canadian singer Justin Bieber, Luke was quick to say that "no" as it is "way too creepy."

The report, however, said that Luke's answer was followed by his bandmate Calum Hood's, the band's bassist, hinting it was not entirely true. He revealed that Luke actually did send a message, saying that Luke wanted to say hi and that he actually did it.

According to their site, the band is also set to perform in Phoenix, Arizona on November 13 and in Los Angeles, California on November 15 and 16. The band is also set to perform in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, France, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and US next year.
