Daniel Radcliffe Disses 'Harry Potter'? 'I Hate It. My Acting is Very One-Note'

Did Daniel Radcliffe take a swipe at one of the biggest movie franchises that made him famous? It sounded bad on paper, but Radcliffe was merely commenting about his acting skills while playing the lead role in the "Harry Potter" films.

In an interview with MailOnline, the actor, who had his big break as the bespectacled boy with a lightning scar on his forehead, said that he is his own worst critic when it comes to rating his acting skills.

The now 25-year-old actor recalled his performance in "Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince."

"It's hard to watch a film like Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince, because I'm just not very good in it. I hate it. My acting is very one note and I can see I got complacent and what I was trying to do just didn't come across," the actor said.

"It's more important for me to be self-critical. Because I've grown up in an atmosphere where everyone is always wanting to be nice to me," Radcliffe added.

On the other hand, he considers that his best work in the franchise was in the fifth installment, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," simply because he thought he saw a progression.

After "Harry Potter", which was based on J.K. Rowling's children's fantasy books, Radcliffe went on to star in a play titled, "Equus," when he was 17. It was also the first time that the actor did his first frontal nude scene.

"James (McAvoy) [who also played the same role previously] says that I definitely get top spot for what I did in Equus, which was effectively stand there completely naked for about 10 minutes. Ten minutes is a hell of a long time - and I was out there at the center of the stage," Radcliffe recalled as quoted by Rolling Stone.

Radcliffe has somewhat built an impressive resume. According to his IMDb profile, he starred in dramas like "December Boys" and the critically-acclaimed film, "Kill Your Darlings," where he plays a 1940s poet who has gotten entangled in a complex relationship with a fellow student and a professor. Radcliffe will also play a suspected murderer who has grown a pair of suspicious appendages in "Horns," which will be premiering in October this year. Moreover, Radcliffe has managed to dazzle critics with his role as a hapless romantic brit in the romantic comedy, "What If," alongside Zoe Kazan.
