'Grey's' fans were taken for the ride of their lives during the season 8 finale that saw the doctors of Seattle Grace-Mercy West plunge in a horrifying plane crash. In true 'Grey's' fashion, fans were left wondering the fate of their favorite doctors including Meredith Grey and husband Derek Shepherd.

Little has been revealed about the fate of the doctors following the fatal plane crash that left Dr. Lexie Grey, or Little Grey, dead under the wreckage. What is known is that new characters will appear on the show along with some fan favorites.

Who's In and Who's Out?

The only confirmed departure from the show, other than Chyler Leigh who played Dr. Lexie Grey, is that of her on-screen love interest, Dr. Mark Sloan. Sloan, known as Dr. McSteamy and played by actor Eric Dane, was left devastated by the death of his young love. Dane announced his departure from the show in July.

Speculation over the fate of Dr. Arizona Robbins, played by Jessica Capshaw, has also been in doubt. The network has teased fans over her future at Seattle Grace-Mercy West during the summer hiatus.

Executive producer and show creator Shonda Rhimes did, however, tell TV Guide exclusively that the show has hired at least three new guest stars, including Tina Majorino, Gaius Charles and Camilla Luddington. The guest stars' roles have yet to be divulged.

According to TV Line, ABC has confirmed actress Jerrika Hinton as the newest Seattle Grace intern. Hinton announced her recurring role on the show through her blog back in July and even shared a photo from the set in late August.

As for the rest of the cast, things remain in the air although it is likely that the doctors will remain in Seattle for the first couple of episodes. Rhimes shared a bit about Grey and Shepard, telling Examiner that the couple will be much happier this season.

'Grey's Anatomy' season 9 premieres on September 27 at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
