Johnny Depp wears many hats - figuratively, too. He's a father of two, husband-to-be, actor, style icon, musician, Hollywood bad boy, and film producer, among others. And now, it appears he's going to be wearing yet another hat - "Chinese reality show judge," as noted by Rolling Stone.

The entertainment news publication said that the A-lister will help "select the winner of the hit show 'Chinese Dream Show.'"

"Shot in the city of Hangzhou, Chinese Dream Show offers ordinary citizens the chance to have their biggest wishes granted," Rolling Stone said. "Like 'American Idol', viewers vote for contestants based on performances and interviews with the host where they try to convince the audience why they should help make their dream come true. Secure enough votes, and you move on to the next round."

"Whoever Depp chooses will get the chance to return to Hollywood with him and live out their star-studded dream," the news source added.

So, why did Johnny take on this Simon Cowell-ish role? Back in April, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter, the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star explained that he took on the opportunity to be an arbiter in the show as he himself know how it's like to have a dream. He also mentioned the fact that he wanted to be a rock musician when he was young and only got into the movies just to pay the rent.

It appeared that the "practical" job ultimately became his ticket to fame and fortune. Despite this, he never failed to reconnect with his love for music by performing every now and then. Rolling Stone recalled that Johnny had "joined Willie Nelson's Family Band on stage in Boston (he's in town shooting the Whitey Bulger film Black Mass), playing guitar throughout the entire 85-minute show."

"Chinese Dream started life in 2011, based for the first two seasons on the BBC format Tonight's the Night. In the third season, Zhejiang Satellite TV changed the format, and it is now in the seventh season," THR said.

With the confirmation of Johnny's involvement in the Chinese reality show, expectations run high in China in the run up to the finale of the said show. It has also become a talkig point on Sina Weibo, with some users hoping to be picked by the Hollywood icon to live out their dream.

This has got people wondering - will his pick do get to live out his or her dream? Or will he or she just fizzle out of public consciousness once his or her 15 minutes of fame is up?
