Despite the record-breaking success of "Frozen", Disney chairman Alan Horn said "there are no concrete plans in motion" for a sequel, The Huffington Post reported.
This bit of news, which emerged in April this year, is quite odd considering a number of other films would start revving up for a sequel once first week box office sales go beyond expectations or reach the "certified hit" territory, revenue-wise.
"Horn told his audience that Disney's sole focus at the moment was getting the 'Frozen' musical ready for Broadway and that a sequel hadn't even been discussed," The Hollywood Reporter said.
Despite this, whisperings of a sequel began way back in February, after Disney honcho Bob Iger said the hit film had "real franchise potential." Considering the fact that it is "the sixth-highest grossing movie of all time, with $1.129 billion in total ticket sales," "Frozen" is above and beyond mere sequel potential - fans would argue that it deserves and is very ripe enough for a follow up.
And it looks like the animated film's director Jennifer Lee agrees.
Radio Times had quoted Lee as saying that while the studio is not yet working on a sequel, this possibility is not at all far fetched.
"We'll see. Never say never," she said. "We are going to take a break and try something new maybe, see what happens."
Cue shouts of joy among "Frozen" fanatics.
"Disney executive producer Don Hahn, who worked on Disney's recent live-action flick Maleficent, concurs, 'I think the audience would always love to see more of those characters,'" the site added.
The film certainly has a good number of aspects that they can flesh out more in "Frozen 2." They could put Queen Elsa and Princess Anna through another snow-filled adventure. Or perhaps develop Princess Anna's romantic possibilities. Or even expand the adorable Olaf's role in the film - or maybe do a cinematic spinoff starring him?

For now, there's the stage version of the film to look forward to. Kristen Bell, who lent her voice for Princess Anna in the movie, made it known she'd be very pleased to be asked to reprise her role. "I certainly hope that they try!" the actress said. "Everybody in 'Frozen' is a Broadway veteran so I certainly hope they try and wrangle us."
