Let the dumbing begin! So said the first trailer of "Dumb & Dumber To," via images, wacky stunts, and two unforgettable characters.
Fans of the comedy flick and viewers of "The Tonight Show" were treated Tuesday to a 2-minute, 40-second trailer showing Lloyd Christmas, played by Jim Carrey, and Harry Dunne, portrayed by Jeff Daniels, in their 1994-era comic element. Based on what was shown in the clip, the boys apparently have reached "genius levels of stupidity," the New York Daily News noted.
The trailer begins with a scene where Harry is visiting best buddy Lloyd, "who has seemingly been in a catatonic state at a mental institution for two decades."
Harry then begins to speak to Lloyd, when the latter began to mutter "Got ya!"
"You mean you have been faking for 20 years and it was all for a gag?" Harry yelled incredulously. "That's awesome!"
And so the rollercoaster, rollicking ride to lower IQ levels began.
"Lloyd suggests Harry takes him inside the home so he can have his catheter removed, his buddy insists they 'don't need nurses for that,' before hilariously tugging on it himself, yanking his agonised sidekick from his wheelchair," The Daily Mail said. "The trailer then sets up the premise for the new film, with the pair discovering Jeff's character has fathered a daughter. In keeping with the earlier gag, Lloyd then points out the postcard carrying the news is postmarked from 1991."
However, it appears that Lloyd is attracted to Harry's daughter, and when forced to admit it, Lloyd outrightly denies the accusation.
Will this new love interest send him in the doldrums again? Will Lloyd get rejected again?
The film is finally slated to be released this year after 20 years. Directed by the Farrelly brothers, the sequel was initially taken up by Warner Bros. but was dropped after 2 years in development. Universal Pictures took over and managed to fast-track the film to completion in time for a November 14 launch.
So, is the film worth watching?
"The trailer fortifies directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly's taste for the crude, foul, irreverent, squeamish and just plain awful. But don't let that deter you from watching the trailer," Time observed. On the other hand, The Mirror noted that, based on the clip, it appears the sequel will "be funnier than 'Dumb and Dumberer,'" which is the prequel released back in 2003.
