Samsung Galaxy Tab S Release Date, Features & Specs: Tablet May Have Fingerprint Sensor

Samsung may have been ordered to pay rival Apple $120 million in a recent ruling on a patent infringement case, but it isn't backing down when it comes to upping the ante in the mobile device sales stakes.

There have been rumors that the South Korean company's AMOLED tablet range will be christened "Galaxy Tab S" and that the line will "come equipped with a fingerprint sensor built into the home button," Digital Trends revealed.

Wait, isn't that what Apple did with the latest iPhone model? Well, there's more to the upcoming new products than just that feature.

"All fingerprint sensor related features from the Galaxy S5 will be present on the tablet, which include: Fingerprint Unlock, PayPal Payments, Private Folder and Samsung Apps login," SamMobile elaborated. "Samsung will also be introducing a new feature, which will be unique to the Galaxy Tab S, it's called Multi-User login. This feature uses Android's native multi-user functionality but enhances it further by allowing the user to log in to his/her account simply by swiping a finger on the home button from the lock screen."

Sounds very interesting, indeed. But yes, that's not all.

"The Galaxy Tab S will come in two display sizes, 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch, and will be the world's first ever device to feature WQXGA (2560×1600) AMOLED display," SamMobile explained. "The AMOLED display technology is known for its low power consumption and high contrast levels. Samsung has been using this technology in its smartphones and digital cameras since many years now. However, it's a completely different story when it comes to company's tablet devices."

The design of the new line of mobile devices will be similar to the Galaxy Tab 4, although with "much, much slimmer edges." This translates to a more comfortable user experience.

Although Samsung initially wanted to launch 6 variants of the Galaxy Tab S, the company reportedly decided to drop the 3G models and release only the LTE and WiFi models for now - a total of 4 variants.
