'American Idol' Season 13 Recap: Top 8 Perform Audition Songs Again

Before we get to that, let's find out who made the most of their "deja vu" moment - the night the remaining 8 American Idol contestants had to sing their audition song again. After all, this week's theme is "Back to the Start."

"It should be fun to watch the American Idol season 13 Top 8 redo their original audition songs for a now and then comparison. However, we are also kind of annoyed at not having fresh songs to hear, and think this theme might put some of the American Idol Top 8 at a disadvantage," observed American Idol Net. Do you agree?

First up is Jessica Meuse, who sang her own original song "Blue-Eyed Lie." According to HitFix, judge Keith Urban commented that it was "a great start to the show," while the other judges harp their praises of her performance. We bet she heaved a big sigh of relief after her turn.

CJ Harris took his turn on the stage and did "Soul Shine."

"You are special enough to be here and your voice is special enough to be here," AI judge Harry Connick Jr said approvingly.

Sam Woolf crooned to "Lego House," which made judge Jennifer Lopez say they got "just a glimpse of the magic of Sam Woolf." Harry thought he should have looked at the audience more.

Malaya Watson re-did "Ain't No Way," which did not totally impress one judge. While Harry did praise her, he also said she needs to work on her runs.

Dexter Roberts' "One Mississippi" was delivered impressively, making J-Lo say, "You showed us." "You sat on that stool and you sang the crap out of that song," Harry commented.

Jena Irene reprised her rendition of "Rolling in the Deep," which convinced Harry she doesn't have a speech impediment, which he speculated on during her audition.

Caleb Johnson came on with "Chain of Fools," which made Keith's mouth run over with praises. "You are a blues warrior, you are a soul conquerer, you Caleb are a rock-n-roll Viking," the country music artist told the contestant.

Alex Preston closed the night with "Fairy Tales," which pleased Harry and got Keith noticing that other finalists were singing along with him.
