Anderson Silva did not pull an April Fool's Day joke by announcing that he is currently training to serve as a member of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), confirms Fox Sports. Silva talked to Folha de Sao Paulo through MMA Fighting and confirmed that he is training to become part of the police force. Some members of his family are also police officers, which compelled him to take on the new role.

Silva said that he will not actually be putting on the official uniform and apprehending criminals anytime soon. He is simply studying and training at the Los Angeles School Police Department to honor his uncle in Curitiba. He said that his training would make his uncle happy and the decision was personal. Silva has nephews and brothers in the police force.

Anderson is arguably the greatest UFC fighter ever to step in the Octagon. His recent loss to Chris Weidman in December 2013 left him with a broken leg. The former middleweight champion is advised to completely recover and possibly not return to training until 2015.

According to Bleacher Report, Silva has presented himself in various ways between and during matches in his long reign in the UFC. He has expressed unique wishes in the past, as well such as wanting to be in a boxing match with Roy Jones Jr.

Silva said that he goes to police training sessions after taking his children to school. He is now 38 years old but continues to show his interest in going back to the Octagon as soon as his doctors approve. He has already established himself as one of the most versatile combatants in the sport and should he not return, he might have another fallback.

The "Spider" said, "It's a personal wish, something that will make my uncle happy. He thought it was a little weird that I'm not doing this here (in Brazil), but it wasn't the right time. My brothers are police officers, my nephews are police officers. It's a family thing."
