Oscar 2015: A Look at Screenwriters Who Could Get Nominated

Having looked at the Directors that could potentially be up for an Oscar, there are many writers who have chances at nominations.

Christopher Nolan and his brother Jonathan are not new to the screenplay award as they both have been nominated for their work in "Memento. Most recently Christopher Nolan was nominated for "Inception." This year the brothers may be back for their in the film "Interstellar." According to pundits this is the director's most Oscar friendly film and that could help his cause.

Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski are best known for their work on "Ed Wood" as well as "The People vs. Larry Flynt." Given the cast and with Tim Burton being attached this movie is receiving great buzz and is likely to get these writer their first nomination.

Bennett Miller reteamed with writer Dan Futterman for "Foxcatcher." Futterman has already received a nomination for his script in "Capote" and if the latest Miller film is as good pundits are making it out to be, expect the movie to be nominated for a screenplay award.

Paul Thomas Anderson has been receiving a lot of buzz for his upcoming film "Inherent Vice." The director is expected to be in the running for a Best Director nomination and if that nomination comes to fruition it will be accompanied by a Best Adapted screenplay nod. After all Anderson has been nominated for writing three times.

Richard Linklater is not known for being Oscar friendly. However he has been nominated twice in the screenwriting category. This year the director could be up for his third nod for his film "Boyhood." The movie premiered to rave reviews at the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals. While the movie is being released by IFC, the movies early buzz and potential Cannes debut could increase the anticipation.

Gillian Flynn is adapting her own novel for David Fincher's "Gone Girl." While it is unusual for an author to get nominated for the adaptation of her novel, Fincher never fails to deliver and if this going to be an Oscar contender, the script has to be good.

Wes Anderson has been nominated twice in the screenplay categories. This year "The Grand Budapest Hotel" could be his third as the movie got great reviews and also broke box office records. If the film is able to continue its success and not be forgotten by the Academy, it will most likely be nominated.

Joel and Ethan Coen could be back at the Oscars after missing a nomination for "Inside Llewyn Davis." This year they wrote Angelina Jolie's second film "Unbroken." The film is receiving a lot of buzz but it is important to note that the last time the Coens wrote a script that they did not direct ("Gambitt"), the film turned out to be a big disaster critically and financially. As a result, it is still too early to make a call on this film.

"The Imitation Game" is one of the most anticipated films of the year after Harvey Wienstein purchased it for $7 million. Writer Graham Moore is fairly new to the industry but with director Mortern Tlydym on board and an A-List cast, the film has to have had a great script to have attracted such people.
