Peyton Manning has a new teammate in DeMarcus Wares, who agreed to a $30 million, three-year contract with the Denver Broncos Wednesday.
"Ware will join forces with Von Miller to form what could be a devastating pass-rush combination," Yahoo! Sports noted. "The signing gives the Broncos a great chance to avenge their Super Bowl blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks."
The Broncos also signed T.J. Ward and Aqib Talib, who also are defensives, aside from the former Dallas Cowboys linebacker/defensive end. This triple signing reflects the team's determination to win next year's Super Bowl.
However, the Broncos' recent move isn't without its "drawbacks." All three athletes have been plagued by injuries in the past seasons. Will they be able to consistently deliver what the team has paid for in millions?
"We really believe he's got a lot of football left in him. He played through a lot of pain last year. He's had a tremendous career and we really think that opposite Von Miller he will really add to the pass rush," said Denver Broncos' Executive VP of Football Operations John Elway.
"We're all in now, but we're really in this for the future as well. We're not mortgaging our future. We plan on being a good football team for a long time," Elway added, ProFootballTalk noted.
Bleacher Report said that the 31-year-old Ware was let go by the Cowboys just before the official start of the free agent period on Tuesday. It was not because his old team didn't like the 2005 first-round pick's performance - it was mostly due to financial matters.
"A tenuous contract renegotiation left them little choice but to cut bait," Bleacher Report explained. "Ware refused to take a pay cut from the $12.25 million base salary he was owed for 2014, instead preferring to be released or for a more standard regeneration-with Ware receiving guarantees via bonuses in exchange for a lower cap hold."
As such, Dallas let him go. The Broncos saw this opportunity and immediately snapped him up.
