Summit Entertainment has found its director for "Insurgent."

Deadline is reporting that Robert Schwentke will direct the upcoming movie, which is set to go into production in May.

The script is currently being rewritten by Akiva Goldsman who recently wrote "A Winter's Tale" after Brian Duffield's original draft. The film is being produced by Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher via their Red Wagon Entertainment along with Pouya Shahbazian. Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman will serve as executive producers via their Mandeville Films.

"Insurgent" will tell the story of Beatrice Prior (Tris) who must confront her inner demons and continue her fight against a powerful alliance which threatens to tear her society apart. The film is set to star the "Divergent" cast, including Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet and Jai Courtney.

Schwentke recently directed "Red," "Flightplan," "The Time Traveler's Wife" and "R.I.P.D." Summit did not indicate whether the director would be on board for the next two installments, but according IMDB he will also direct the third installment.

"Divergent," the first installment in the series, is slated to open on March 21. The new film will tell the story of Beatrice Prior (Tris), a teenager with a special mind, who finds her life threatened when an authoritarian leader seeks to exterminate her kind in her effort to seize control of their divided society.

Summit Entertainment will release "Insurgent" on March 20, 2015 while "Allegiant," the third installment, will open March 18, 2016.
