"Gravity" is set to dominate the technical awards when the Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Sciences announces the nominations for the Oscars.

The film has thus far dominated the technical precursor awards and has been nominated for every single technical guild award.

"Gravity" is expected to land nominations in the Cinematography, Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing nominations. It should also land nods in for its score, visual effects, and perhaps the Art Direction category.

Another film that is looking incredibly strong in these categories is "Captain Phillips." The movie is slated to score nominations for Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing. It may also get a Cinematography nod for Barry Ackroyd.

"Rush" has not played strongly in the precursor awards but it is a film the Academy could embrace especially in the two sound categories. The movie could also score an editing nomination and perhaps a score nod if the Academy feels like rewarding Hans Zimmer twice.

Meanwhile, "12 Years a Slave" is likely to do well in the technical awards especially in the Cinematography, Editing and Score branches. The film will also make it into the Art Direction and perhaps the Costume Design branches.

"Inside Llewyn Davis" will also make it into the Sound category and if it is lucky into the Art Direction category.

"American Hustle" is also likely to get the three technical nominations while "The Great Gatsby" will lead the Art Direction, Costume Design and Makeup nominations. Finally, "The Invisible Woman" will also surprise in the costume design and art direction categories especially after being shut out of the precursor awards.
